Commentary

Four more manifestations of divine excellence are named here. Among all purifiers, Krishna is the wind — pavana. The wind purifies naturally: it carries away impurities, brings fresh air, and sustains life through breath. In the Vedic tradition, Vayu (the wind god) is considered one of the most powerful and pure deities.

Among wielders of weapons, Krishna is Rama — Lord Rama of the Ramayana, the ideal warrior-king. This is significant: Krishna, who is himself the Supreme Lord, names another avatar as His representative among warriors. Rama is the exemplar of righteous warfare — one who fights not for personal glory but for the restoration of dharma. Among all the great warriors of history and mythology, Rama stands supreme.

Among aquatic creatures, Krishna is the makara — the shark or crocodile, the most powerful and fearsome creature in the waters. The makara is a recurring symbol in Hindu iconography, representing power and authority in the aquatic realm.

Among rivers, Krishna is the Ganges — Jaahnavee, the daughter of Jahnu. In India, the Ganges is not merely a river but the holiest of all bodies of water. She is considered a goddess descended from heaven, whose waters purify the living and liberate the dead. Millions of Hindus make pilgrimage to her banks, and her water is used in every sacred ceremony. The Ganges represents the supreme among rivers in sanctity, in cultural significance, and in the devotion she inspires.
