Two interrelated instructions are given: make the mind one-pointed (eka-agra), and control the activities of mind and senses (yata-chitta-indriya-kriya). The concept of eka-agra — one-pointedness — is foundational to all meditative traditions. The ordinary mind is like a restless monkey, swinging from one thought to another, one sensory impression to the next.
