Commentary
Commentary
This is the grand conclusion of Chapter 10, and it delivers a truth so vast it renders all previous verses — all the specific vibhutis, all the examples — into mere preludes. Krishna says: “Why do you need all this detail? Just know this one thing — with a single fragment of Myself, I pervade and support this entire universe.”
Ekaamshena sthito jagat — “With one fragment I am situated in the entire universe.” The entire cosmos — every galaxy, every star, every planet, every atom, every consciousness, every force — is sustained by a single fragment of Krishna’s being. And this entire material creation, with all its incomprehensible vastness, is just that one fragment. The spiritual realm, which lies beyond this material universe, is another dimension of His existence entirely.
This verse puts everything in perspective. When we are awestruck by the ocean, by the stars, by the power of nature, by the brilliance of the human mind — all of that is a tiny expression of a single fragment. The real Krishna, the full Supreme Personality of Godhead, is beyond anything we can encounter in this material world.
The words athavaa bahunaitena kim jnaatena carry an almost casual tone: “But really, what is the need for all this elaborate knowing?” After nearly twenty verses of detailed vibhuti description, Krishna essentially says that even knowing all of that is insufficient. The finite mind cannot catalogue the infinite. Better to grasp the single essential truth: everything you see, everything you experience, everything that exists — all of it rests on a single spark of the Divine.
This is the concluding teaching of Vibhuti Yoga: God is not just present in the exceptional — He is the very fabric of all existence. Knowing this, the devotee sees God everywhere, in every being and every thing, and lives in a state of continuous awareness of the Divine presence.
