Commentary

After listing dozens of specific manifestations, Krishna now makes the universal statement that encompasses them all. He is the beejam — the seed — of every being in existence. Every creature, every plant, every object, every force in the universe originates from this single divine source. The seed contains within it the entire potential of what will grow — similarly, Krishna contains within Himself the entire potential of all creation.

The second line is absolute: na tad asti vinaa yat syaat mayaa bhootam charaacharam — “There is no being, moving or non-moving, that can exist without Me.” This is not a claim of ownership but a statement of ontological necessity. Without Krishna’s energy, nothing can sustain itself. The sun cannot shine, the wind cannot blow, the river cannot flow, the heart cannot beat. Every atom of existence depends on His power for its very being.

This verse serves as a bridge between the specific examples of the previous verses and the summarizing conclusion that follows. Having walked Arjuna through dozens of examples — from Vishnu among the Adityas to Rama among warriors to silence among secrets — Krishna now makes clear that these were merely illustrations. The underlying truth is total: He is the source and sustainer of everything.

The word charaacharam — “moving and non-moving” — covers all categories without exception. Living beings that move (animals, humans, birds) and those that do not (mountains, trees, rivers) — all exist because of Krishna. There is no corner of the universe, no dimension of existence, no scale of being, that is independent of Him. This is the fullest expression of divine omnipresence.
