After nearly twenty verses of listing His most prominent manifestations, Krishna pauses to make an essential clarification: everything He has described so far is merely a hint. The list — however long, however detailed — is incomplete and can never be complete, because His divine opulences are infinite.

Naanto’sti mama divyaanaam vibhooteenaam — “There is no end to My divine opulences.” This is not a figure of speech. It is a literal statement about the infinite nature of God. Every category Krishna has named — serpents, warriors, rivers, letters, seasons — contains further categories within it, each with its own supreme manifestation of the Divine. And beyond those are categories not mentioned, realms not described, dimensions of existence that human language cannot reach.

Esha tu uddeshаtah proktah — “This has been spoken merely by way of indication.” The word uddeshаtah means “as a sample,” “by way of pointing.” Krishna has given Arjuna a guided tour of His opulences, but it is like showing someone a few grains of sand and saying, “This is what a beach looks like.” The real thing is incomprehensibly vaster.

This verse teaches a vital lesson in spiritual humility. No matter how much we learn about God, no matter how many scriptures we study or how many experiences we accumulate, we have only glimpsed the surface. The infinite cannot be fully known by the finite mind. Yet this is not cause for despair — it is cause for wonder. The devotee who understands that God is always more than what can be described lives in a state of perpetual awe and discovery.
